Question:

How can I get the latest version upgrade?

Solution:

New version upgrades are available to any clients who have either:

Purchased the HelpConnection solution within the past 3 months.
(We provide the first 90 days of support and upgrades as part of your purchase.)
Purchased an annual support contract that has not yet expired.
Annual support contracts can be purchased here: https://www.helpconnection.net/shop/select.aspx
The annual support contract is $400. (20% of the HC standard price of $2000.)

WHAT IS HERO HELP DESK ?

Question:

What is the Hero Help Desk, and is it legitimate?

Solution:

Hero Help Desk is our own hosted HelpConnection.net offering. We offer it on another site because you really don't need all the technical information we offer on our HelpConnection.net site, so why complicate things. (Plus, we like the name Hero Help Desk better! More catchy, right?)

Rather than purchasing the HelpConnection solution now, and hosting it yourself...

... sign up for Hero Help Desk! We'll get you started, fast. And there is no up-front finincial commitment. Once your trial is over, you can pay per month, including upgrades and support.

Q: Can I cancel my Hero Help Desk plan?

A: Sure. All we need is notice, in writing (email is fine). One or two days notice should be fine, just so we can cancel any future recurring transactions before they are processed.

*Hint: This is a great way to get started using HelpConnection.
No large initial price. No hosting requirements.

GENERAL OVERVIEW VIDEO

Question:

I've tested the product and I love it! But I'm a bit short on time.

Do you have a quick tour video that I can show my boss?

Solution:

Absolutely. A very brief, executive level, overview video can be found [ here ]. This video tours some of the features and is split into two parts for your convenience. The total run time of both videos is 5 minutes.

Note that entire feature sets are mentioned at a high level only, so that the video can be kept short. Detailed features are not described here. For example, there is a mention of the admin ability to upload files. There is no mention of the fact that clients can also upload files if allowed. Nor that there are settings to disallow certain file extensions, nor the fact that you can set up your own categories for organizing these uploaded files....

Question:

Can I purchase the source code for Help Connection?

Solution:

Yes, you can purchase the source code for HelpConnection.NET.

However, most people do not need the source code, since the software has been designed to be extremely flexible. We recommend that you try the 30 day free trial version to see for yourself whether or not you need the source code, before you purchase it.

Some of the things we've done to make the compiled version easy to adapt are:

Many optional settings are built-into the application admin areas.
See the online demo for yourself, particularly noting the various Tools tab items (Clients Fields Designer, Issue Fields Designer), Application Settings, Security Levels, and the Home tab (Update Profile) areas.
Many optional settings are also built-into the web.config file.
All visible text can be edited in an .xml file, via a language file editor that is included.
Single header & footer files are used throughout the client side. And single header & footer files are used throughout the admin side. This makes it easy to add your site header to the entire client side of the software by including it in one file only!
A common stylesheet is used for the entire client side, and for the entire admin side.

The source code is available for an additional price of $2000 (above the full license price). Please note that some limitations in support may apply if you have customized and re-compiled your software. Question:

Before I go to the trouble of downloading and installing the trial software, I'd like to see what it's like.

Is there a sandbox that's online already?

Solution:

The admin user can use:
username: Admin and
password: Admin1
Both are case sensitive.

The online demo has a few restrictions. For example, you cannot change the password for the agents, nor can you change the system settings. (These restrictions are to ensure that the demo will work for other testers.)

Note that the database is cleaned out every few days. Hopefully this won't happen while you're working in there, but it is a possiblity that we (or another tester) will delete your test data.

Please rest assured that the [ trial download ] copy does not have any restrictions. The trial download is the exact same software as the purchased copy, except that the license key will expire in 30 days from when the download was sent.

What other hardware and software are required to run this application?

Solution:

If you are planning on purchasing a HelpConnection.NET license , for a one time fee... please see the [ full system requirements list ].

If you are planning on leasing the software (let us install and host it for you), then all you need is an online browser ! That browser can be MS Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Netscape, Safari ... it doesn't matter.

DATABASE(S), WHICH ARE SUPPORTED?

Which databases can be used for the back end of HelpConnection.NET ?

Solution:

Since MS SQL is the most robust and reliable database designed for the Windows server, this is the only database that can be used with HelpConnection.NET.

You can use SQL Server 2000, 2005 or Express.

Absolutely!

The trial edition download has all the features of the full version, so it's a great way to make sure that HC .NET can run on your server, or to test out optional settings in the web.config file.
