users, we have decided to create a utility that would transfer the existing HD 6.3 data to newly installed HC .NET solution. Even though not 100%
of your data can be migrated most will, the following is a list of data that can be migrated:
 Drafts and it's contents
Glossary Items
Agent Profiles
Category/Sub-category Hierarchy
Client Profiles (created)
Todo/Task Items
Issues either All or Public/KB only
While we have tried to make the migration as complete as possible due to technical issue and incompatibility of the
solutions there is data that will not be migrated such as file association or some data might become corrupt.
The data migration tool (DMT) has been extensively tested and is the recommended way of migrating your data.
There are a few steps you have to take in order to successfully install and use the Data Migration Tool (DMT):
1. Download and Install the DMT. Use the [installation guide] that comes with the package.
2. Once successfully installed, call the DMT in your browser and follow instructions.
In step 1 you are asked to enter the old HD database connection, which you can look-up in the config.asp file, only enter the
part of the connection string surrounded by " signs. For example:
PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;DATA SOURCE=C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\HC63\DB\HC63.mdb;
Next, enter the HC connection string, this is the connection string as you have it defined in the web.config file. Note, that the
HC must already be installed, with the settings already applied.
3. Next select the items you wish to transfer and press the continue button. You are then presented with the
overview of what will happen next. Confirm and press transfer button.
Important Notes
Only use the DMT on freshly installed HC, never on existing and already used installation.
You can only use the DMT once per HC installation, this is to prevent data integrity corruption.
Since there is no client database in the HD, DMT will create client profiles. DMT may switch first and last names.
It might take a few minutes (up to 15) to complete the transfer, do not interrupt it while started.
